"....and secondly it has the words DON'T PANIC inscribed in large friendly letters on its cover."

So far I been enjoying the Kindle for book reading but one of the things I dislike, is the screensavers that appear when the reader is in sleep mode.

In fact a couple are a bit scary; especially the one's of Emily Dickinson and Harriet Beecher Stowe (if you have a Kindle you know what I mean).

Amazon don't actual have a way of putting your own pictures on the Kindle but it is possible to achieve this with a bit of jiggery pokery.

The jiggery pokery is to jailbreak the Kindle to allow you to place your own pictures on there.

After doing this the only picture that could go on the screensaver was:-

If anyone is interested in changing the screensavers on their Kindle the instructions are at How-To Geek and it goes without saying that you do this at your own risk.

Update: Amazon have updated the firmware to the Kindle to 3.1 and because of this the Jailbreak and Screen Hacks don't work on the new firmware.

  3. Though I simply adore the e-reader my kids gave me for the holidays, I do so miss the comfort of a book in my lap, slowly, at will turning pages, snuggled into a favorite corner while the wind howls and the snow falls on a frigid winter's eve..... :}
